Abstract

1472978 Relief image W R GRACE & CO 29 April 1975 [10 April 1974] 16026/74 Heading G2A A relief image is produced by applying a layer of photocurable material to a support, transporting the support in an arcuate path, together with an image-bearing transparency, past light emitted from a narrow slot, and removing uncured material from the support. The support may be in the form of a cylinder or metal web. The latter may be cut after image production. Collimated U.V. light may be employed. Uncured material may be removed by washing. As shown, photopolymer is applied to a cylinder 1 by a doctor blade 3 and activated by a fluorescent lamp 5. After one revolution of cylinder 1, a negative 7 carried under vacuum by a glass plate held by guides 8 passes together with the cylinder under a light source 10 while ionized air from nozzles 9 is blown through a gap between negative 7 and cylinder 1.
