Abstract

1472531 Electrolytic machining DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 16 July 1974 [17 April 1973] 18410/73 Heading C7B A metallic workpiece which forms a passive coating when electrolytically machined in water is instead machined using an electrolyte comprising an ionizable substance dissolved in a polar non-aqueous solvent which may contain up to 20% w/v of water, at a machining c.d. of at least 13.5 mA/mm<SP>2</SP>. The metal may be Ti or an alloy e.g. Cr 20/Ti 2.5/Al 1.6/Co 18/Ni balance or Ni 38/Mo 5À5/Ti 13/Fe balance, in wt per cent. The ionizable material may be HCl, ZnCl 2 , MgCl 2 or HBr dissolved in dioxane, formamide, tetrahydrofuran or methanol.
