1471962 Imino-pyridine derivatives CIBAGEIGY AG 10 April 1974 [11 April 1973] 23790/75 Divided out of 1471961 Heading C2C Novel compounds have the Formula I wherein R 1 is an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical Z 1 is =NH or -NH 2 , Z 2 is =NR 2 , -NHR 2 , -NR 3 R 4 , -OR 5 or -SR 6 , wherein each of the groups R 2 , R 3 and R 4 , which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical or an alkyl radical which may be substituted and if substituted contains at most 6 carbon atoms or R 3 and R 4 , together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, can form a 5-membered or 6-membered ring, R 5 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, R 6 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, Z 3 is =NR 1 or -NHR 1 wherein R 1 is as defined above, Y is -CONH 2 or -CN, and A is a dihydropyridine ring with the proviso that one of the radicals Z 1 , Z 2 and Z 3 contains a nitrogen atom attached to ring A by a double bond. The compounds of Formula I are obtained by treatment of a corresponding quaternary pyridinium 2-halide with a nucleophilic agent in an alkaline medium (Examples 1 to 4 and 8). These starting materials are in turn prepared by reaction of a phosphoryl halide with the corresponding cyanoacetic amide in chloroform (Examples 5, 6, 7 and 9).
