Abstract

1499123 Pyridinium compounds AGFAGEVAERT AG 21 Feb 1975 [23 Feb 1974] 7328/75 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and G2-G3] 1-Carbamoyl and 1-allophanyloxy pyridinium compounds are prepared by reacting carbamide chlorides or allophanic acid chlorides with pyridine-N-oxides in aprotic media, or sometimes in alcoholic or aqueous systems. Preferred compounds have the formula in which R 1 represents an alkyl or aryl group, R 2 represents an alkyl or aryl group or one of the groups R 6 R 7 N.CO- or R 8 OCO-, R 6 represents hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, R 7 and R 8 each represent alkyl, or R 1 and R 2 may together represent the atoms that complete a heterocyclic ring system or that form a piperazine ring in which the second nitrogen atom establishes the connection to a second, similar, molecular residue of the Formula II R 3 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, cyano, -CONH 2 or -NHCOO alkyl, R 4 is hydrogen or alkyl, R 5 is hydrogen or methyl and X represents an anion. Compounds in which X is chloride can be converted to non-hygroscopic fluorborates or perchlorates.
