Abstract
1471857 Cooling steel rod CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 15 March 1976 [13 March 1975] 10199/76 Heading C7N Steel rod leaving the hot-rolling mill is rapidly cooled by water and/or air to a temperature between 550‹ and 700‹C after which it is deposited on a conveyer in loose turns and cooled in still air at less than 25‹C/sec. to the temperature at which the transformation to ferrite and pearlite commences. The rod, while still as loose turns, is then immersed into an aqueous bath maintained at or near its boiling point while the transformation occurs without recalescence. The bath may be a solution/ suspension of one or more inorganic salts and/or surface-active substances.
