In the form shown, air is supplied through a valve controlled inlet 19 in an ash pan door and through inlets 17A, 17B which may be provided in a fire door. The air flow rate through inlets 17A, 17B is controlled by butterfly or hit-and-miss valves 18A, 18B which may be actuated thermostatically. The riddle 11 is moved by a timed oscillatory electric motor.
