Abstract

1471159 Silencing flow from valves ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 20 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 36509/74 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] An air valve, e.g. a pressure regulating valve for air brake systems of a motor vehicle, comprises a silencer 14, Fig. 1, in the form of a cup-shaped filter in an exhaust passage 8 of the valve housing. Pressure air is supplied from a compressor 22 through the regulator to a reservoir 7. Surplus pressure air is exhausted through a spring-loaded valve 9, the filter-silencer 14 and a flexible pipe 23 to atmosphere. The cup-shaped silencer 14 is of sheet metal and comprises perforations in its cylindrical wall and larger perforations in its base. Moreover, it is provided with a safety flap (21), Fig. 2 (not shown), which opens to provide a flowpath if the silencer becomes blocked. The silencer can be removed after removal of a spring-ring 15. An alternative filter silencer, Fig. 3 (not shown), has the perforated portion of the cylindrical wall replaced by a steel wire gauze section soldered between the base and the flap (21).
