Abstract

1469717 Ultra-violet setting inks BANK OF THAILAND 13 June 1974 26380/74 Heading C4A An alkali-soluble, ultra-violet setting vehicle comprises a mixture of (i) a non-ultra-violet setting adduct of tung oil with an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and (ii) an ultra-violet setting adduct of tung oil with an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid. The term "ultra-violet setting adduct" means that the adduct polymerizes in the presence of ultra-violet light thereby hardening and drying to a hard film. The weight ratio of (i) to (ii) is preferably 1:1. Preferably (i) contains at least 20 parts by weight of acid per 100 part by weight of oil and (ii) contains less than 20 parts by weight of acid per 100 parts by weight of oil. In the examples an intaglio ink comprising adducts (i) and (ii) prepared from tung oil and fumaric acid, lanolin, trioctyl phosphate, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, brown and yellow pigments and benzoyl peroxide is dried as a film by exposure to a UV-lamp and by air-oxidation.
