1469669 Fluid dampers VETCO OFFSHORE INDUSTRIES Inc 1 Aug 1974 33929/74 Heading F2S [Also in Division El] A drilling barge has a split crown block supporting a split travelling block whose sheaves 44 are mounted on opposite sides of an hydraulic heave compensator 10 which in its upper positions extends between the sheaves of the crown block, the compensator including outer and inner cylinders 16, 19 having respective lower heads 18, 20 and a piston 22 supporting a piston-rod 27 which extends out of the cylinders in sealing engagement with the heads 18, 20, the piston-rod carrying a lock member 35 to which a drill string support hook H is connected by gimbal 38, the lock member 35 abutting a upper lock member 72 on head 18 when the rod is fully retracted and then being connectible to member 72 by collet 75 upon depression of piston 85 and cam 90. The concentric annular spaces 29, 30 below piston 22 are connected to a common pneumaticallypressurized accumulator via 15, 15a.
