Subaqueous audible signalling.-In systems for indicating fairways by submarine conductors carrying alternating currents, means are provided in the conductor for enabling a ship to tell when it has arrived at particular points in the fairway. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, inductively-coupled metallic-return sections are interposed in the cable, so as locally to eliminate cr diminish the inductive effect at the ship. Or the same result may be secured by locally laying the cable in a grid formation, as shown in Fig. 2. Or submarine sound-transmitters may be connected in the circuit, as shown in Fig. 3.
