Abstract

1469532 Imidazolyl-alkanoic acid derivatives DUMEX AS 27 June 1974 [28 June 1973 28 May 1974] 30830/73 and 23636/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds I (in which R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are 1-8 C alkyl, 3-6 C cycloalkyl, or optionally substituted phenyl and R<SP>2</SP> may also be H; R<SP>3</SP> is a lone pair of electrons of an oxygen atom; A is -CH 2 -, -CH(CH 3 )- or -CH 2 CH 2 - and B is OH or 1-2 C alkoxy), acid addition salts thereof and, when B is OH, alkali and alkaline earth metal salts thereof are prepared by (1) reaction of a compound II with a compound III X-A-COOR (in which X is a leaving group, e.g. halo); (2) hydrolysis of a compound IV (in which Y is hydrolytically removable, e.g. alkoxy); (3) acid hydrolysis of a compound IVb (4) reduction of a compound Ib (5) desulphurization of a compound VIII e.g. with Raney nickel, (6) reaction of a compound V with a compound VI H 2 N-A-COB and a compound VII Z-R<SP>2</SP> (in which Z is -CHO or dialkoxymethyl); (7) esterification of a compound I in which B is OH; (8) conventional salt formation. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I together with a suitable diluent or carrier and are administered orally, rectally, parenterally and topically as analgesics and antiphlogistics.
