1469415 Particle spectrometers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 June 1974 [26 June 1973] 27614/74 Heading H1D In an ion or electron spectrometer of the type in which particles are emitted from a sample 11 as a result of bombardment by a primary beam of radiation 29 and then analysed by an electrostatic field between coaxial cylindrical electrodes 1, 2 and detected at 14, particles not travelling at least approximately in radial planes are eliminated by radial arrays of plates such as 18, 24 within and connected to the inner electrode 2 adjacent either or both of the entrance and exit gaps 7, 8. The radial plates should be at least twelve in number and their inner ends can be connected by a cylindrical support 27.
