Abstract
1469312 Coated electric cables ACHESON INDUSTRIES INC 29 May 1974 [29 May 1973] 23856/74 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and Hl] In making an electric ignition cable, the conductors 12 (graphite-impregnated fibreglass) and glass-fibre braid 14 are coated with a sheath 16 of a composition comprising (A) 8-95% by weight (of total solids) of a fluoroelastomer and (B) 5-92% by weight of finelydivided electrically conductive particles of graphite, a noble metal (e.g. Ag), copper or an alloy thereof. The fluoroelastomer is preferably a vinylidene fluoride/hexanuoropropylene copolymer, and up to 15% by weight of a silicate or silica as flow control agent. The composition may be applied as a solution or dispersion comprising 0.5-50% by weight solids in, e.g., acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or dimethylformamide, the solution having a viscosity of 500-2000 cp.
