Abstract
1468889 Hot isostatic compaction of alloy powders CRUCIBLE Inc 5 April 1974 [12 April 1973] 15181/74 Heading C7D Compacted alloy articles which have an internal passage e.g. Ni, Co or Fe based alloy dies for injection moulding, are made by packing a powder alloy charge about a spaced apart ceramic core and ceramic insert and isostatically hot pressing the charge. The core and insert are preferably made from a mixture of zircon or A1203 and a SiO 2 binder and isostatic compaction may be effected at 1800-2300‹F in a sealed container. As shown in Fig. 5 the -80 mesh alloy powder 14 e.g. IN-100 alloy, is packed around ceramic cores 10, ceramic inserts 18 and steel divider plate 16 in a ceramic mould 40 which is packed in SiO 2 or Al 2 O 3 powder 46 in a steel container 42. After vacuum outgassing the assembly at 400-500‹F the stein 44 is sealed and the charge is isostatically hot pressed in an autoclave.
