As shown in Fig. 6 the truck body 18 having a floor panel 19 supported by transverse beams 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 rests ontwolongitudinal beams 30, 31 of the truck chassis, which beams 30, 31 are supported on the rear axle housing 32 through springs 33. The wells 23, 24 each comprise an inner side panel 56 bent over from a top panel 55 which has welded thereto an outer panel 57 which outer panel can constitute the entire outer wall. Transverse beams 42, 43 and connecting longitudinal beams 45, 46, 47, 48 support the end flanges and the inner and outer walls respectively of the wheel wells. A fifth wheel support 28 is supported by a pair of brackets 62, 63 whose lower inturned flanges are secured by bolts 71 to the longitudinal beams 45, 46. Auxiliary side panels 75 may be hinged to the tops of panels 57, 60. An end gate 81 may be hinged to the top of rear panel 79 to close the rear of the truck body. In a modification, Fig. 9, a plate 90 which overlies transverse beams 49, 50 and longitudinal beams 45, 46, has upwardly extending ears 92, 93 to which a fifth wheel is secured by a pin 94. The ears are maintained in a vertical position by triangular brackets 97, 98, 99, 100 welded to plate 90 and to ears 92, 93.
