Abstract

1468658 Pistons LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 March 1974 [16 March 1973] 12867/73 Heading F2T In a radial piston pump or motor, a part spherical piston 16 has a sealing ring 17 in a plane parallel to its equatorial plane. The resilient split ring 17 is preferably of carbon and it enables a piston with lateral clearance to be used at high hydraulic pressures. In a modified ring, a groove (117a, Fig. 2, not shown) ensures that the ring is never heavily loaded axially by hydraulic pressure, thereby preventing its radial motion from generating excessive friction.
