Abstract

1468356 Porous fluoropolymer membranes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 June 1974 [18 July 1973] 34169/73 Heading C3C [Also in Division C7] A porous fluorocarbon polymer membrane, e.g. of PVdF or PTFE has bores of average length at least twice their average width. The membrane may be made by forming a sheet of the polymer in admixture with a solid particulate removable additive, which is cellulose optionally coated with a polyacrylic (or methacrylic) resin and which is removed from the sheet, e.g. by electrolysis in situ in an electrolysis cell using an NaCl electrolyte. Fillers, e.g. TiO 2 may be present. The pores may be 30- 120 Á in length and 10-30 Á in width.
