1468188 Flame retardant treatment, flame retardant binder STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 26 Nov 1974 51093/74 Heading D1P [Also in Division C3] Flammable materials are treated with a flame-retardant composition comprising (a) a latex of a copolymer of (i) a vinyl or vinylidene halide, (ii) a bis(hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl vinyl phosphonate, (iii) an alkylacrylate and (iv) optionally (meth)acrylic acid or (meth)acrylamide or an N-methylol or diacetone derivative thereof, (b) a phosphorus compound which is a condensate of bis(betachloroethyl)vinyl phosphonate or cocondensate thereof with dimethyl methyl phosphonate tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium halide or hydroxide, N-hydroxymethyl-3-(dimethylphosphoro)propionamide, tris(2-3-dibromophopyl)phosphate, and water insoluble ammonium polyphosphate or ammonium metaphosphoramidate, (c) a melamine- or ureaformaldehyde aminoplast, and optionally (d) urea and (e) a phosphate plasticizer. Cellulosic substrates in the form of paper, non-woven fabrics and woven fabric textiles may be treated with the compositions, the Examples referring to a non-woven cellulosic cloth and a rayon/polyester cloth.
