Abstract

1468178 Controlled continuous annealing of steel ITALSIDER SpA 27 Nov 1974 [29 Nov 1973] 51268/74 Heading C7N Steel is continuously annealed to a controlled uniform hardness by indirectly monitoring the product by measurement of a magnetic property, the result being compensated for variation in carbon content by measuring the same property at the same location in the product but upstream of the annealing furnace. The property is measured upstream, M CR , and is related to the carbon content C, p,p.m., by the expression where K, K O are constants derived experimentally and α lies between 2 and 3.5. The same property is measured at the same location in the product and at the exit of the furnace to provide a value M CO from which hardness is obtained by the Formula:- where D = hardness S = thickness at the location where the measurements are made a, b, c, d and A O = coefficients obtained by statistical analysis of known results.
