Abstract

1468064 Image storage tubes TEKTRONIX Inc 6 March 1974 [17 May 1973] 10023/74 Heading HID A charge storage image tube comprises a mesh target 14 with a dielectric coating 12, means e.g. collimating electrodes 46, 48, 50 for uniformly bombarding the target with low velocity electrons from a first cathode 44, writing means for bombarding the target with high velocity electrons from a second cathode 30 to form a positive image thereon, and means for applying a varying potential 68 corresponding to the differential cut-off to the mesh whereby the low velocity electrons are uniformly transmitted through written areas. The potential applied to the mesh comprises a pulse 58 to erase previous charge, a potential 52 sufficient to allow flood electrons to uniformly charge the target and a cut-off voltage at time 62 after which the charge image is written. The potential 68 is then applied during viewing. The waveform may be square, sinusoidal or triangular. A further mesh target may be placed between grid 40 and the target 14.
