Abstract
1468037 Winding speed sensing device WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 1 May 1974 [1 May 1973] 19087/74 Heading B8B A speed sensor 30 for monitoring and controlling terminal slowdown of an elevator car, includes an eddy current coupling 73 having an electroconductive disc 78 rotatably driven in proportion to the elevator car speed, and a permanent magnet 86 magnetically driven by the disc for pivoting about an axis 64, the magnet 86 being counterbalanced by cams 100 at the opposite side of the axis 64, which cams are each arranged to operate one of a pair of adjustable switches 122, 132 depending on the direction of car movement each cam operating its associated switches at a different speed. Springs 180, 182 of adjustable strength are applied to the magnet/ cam member to provide retarding and restoring forces thereon when the elevator speed is increasing and decreasing, to reduce the difference between the opening and closing points of the switches. The input to the disc 78 through its shaft 62 is from a transmission rope secured within a loop formation to one elevator car, and driving through a pulley system, a transmission chain being associated with a chain slack detector for stopping the elevator drive.
