Abstract
1,098,254. Winding apparatus-speed limiting devices. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Feb. 3, 1965 [Feb. 28, 1964], No. 4693/65. Heading B8B. [Also in Division H2] A speed-responsive means in an elevator system comprises an electro-conductive disc 313 rotatable in a structure 303, 305 in proportion to the speed of the elevator and a C-shaped permanent magnet 319 mounted on an arm 323 for arcuate movement about the axis of the disc 313, the latter moving through the gap in the magnet 319 forming an inductive coupling across which a force is transmitted from the disc to the arm 323 to move the latter through a displacement dependent on the speed of the disc. The arm 323 rotatable about a shaft 321 includes a sector 345 on which cams are adjustably mounted. The cams operate switches to stop an elevator drive motor and apply a brake to the elevator winding drum when a predetermined displacement of the arm 323 is reached. The latter arm is biased into a neutral position by a weight 327 or by springs. The disc 313 mounted on a shaft 307 is driven from a pulley CSD5 which is coupled by an endless member to one of the terminal drums of a looped governor rope. The latter has both ends attached to the elevator cage. A safety relay controlling the power supply to the winding motor and a solenoid released winding drum brake, is energized through one of two parallel circuits, a pair of parallel circuits being associated with each terminal region of the elevator travel. One of the circuits includes a switch operated via the inductive coupling in the event of overspeed, in series with which is a switch operated in the event of breakage of the endless drive member to the pulley CSD5. The operation of either one of these aforesaid switches will de-energize the safetv relay provided the latter is not energized through the second of the parallel circuits which includes switches operated only in the terminal regions by cams on the elevator cage. Further switches may be associated with the inductive coupling to be operated to slow down the elevator cage before the stop switch is operated.
