Abstract

1467987 Isopentene UBE INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 June 1974 [22 June 1973] 25028/74 Heading C5E Isopentene is prepared by disproportionating a hydrocarbon feed comprising isobutene and n-butene at 220-380‹ C. with a catalyst comprising (a) Mo, (b) Co, Sn, Ag, Zn, Cd, Pb, Bi and/or Sb deposited on an alumina carrier in the presence of 0À1-25 vol. per cent steam based on the volume of feed at S.T.P., and isolating the isopentene from the reaction mixture. The hydrocarbon feed preferably contains 30- 60 wt. per cent isobutene. The catalyst is preferably calcined at 300-1000‹ C. in air and may be treated with an inert gas containing steam at 100-300‹ C.
