Abstract

1454717 Cycloolefins MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 May 1975 [9 May 1974 17 Feb 1975] 19193/75 Heading C5E Cyclo-olefins are produced by the partial hydrogenation of benzene or substituted benzenes containing up to 3 C 1 -C 3 alkyl groups at 20-250‹ C. under H 2 at 1-200 atmospheres in an aqueous medium which does not contain an alkali in the presence of (1) a catalyst comprising Ru and/or Rh and (2) a promoter selected from metals of groups Ia and IIa, Zn, Mn, Fe, ions thereof and ammonium. The promoter and the catalyst may be supported on a carrier such as zeolite, silica, silicaalumina, alumina and kieselguhr. Alternatively the promoter may be in ionic form dissolved in the aqueous solution. Examples describe the hydrogenation of benzene, toluene and oxylene.
