Abstract

1467967 Valves GROVE VALVE & REGULATOR CO 20 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 55157/74 Heading F2V [Also in Division G3] A pressure surge relief system for a liquid pipe-line 10 has a relief valve 14 in a relief line 24 which valve is provided with a valve member 36 that is biased into closed position by gas pressure in a flexible bag 44. The gas pressure is regulated to follow that in the pipe-line 10 by a line 48 which communicates the liquid pressure to the outside of the bag and to a combined relief and regulating valve 50 for the gas. On electrical detection of a pressure surge in the pipe-line 10 at 70 a solenoid operated valve 76 is actuated to vent a chamber 80 so that valve 86 is closed to isolate the gas pressure loading the relief valve from the liquid pipeline prior to the surge passing the line 48 so that when the pressure surge reaches the relief valve 14 the valve member 36 is moved off its seat by the pressure surge to vent excess pressure.
