Abstract

1467859 Preventing emission fumes; reverberating furnace WABASH ALLOYS Inc 6 Dec 1974 52902/74 Heading F4B A reverberatory melting furnace has an extension 64 forming a charging well, enclosed within a hood 32 which has an inlet 34 for introducing metal into the charging well 62, and an air curtain at the opening 32 preventing the escape of gases, and a fan is connected to the outlet 28 of the hood 32 to deliver the gases given off from contaminated scrap to the burners at the opposite end of the furnace. Fumes given off in excess of these acceptable to the burners may be delivered to the stack 60 at the burner end of the furnace, an inlet in the furnace wall remote from the burners, or to a burner elsewhere. A separate damper controlled duct 90 with a fan is provided for excess fumes. Doors 68 enable the charging well to be cut off from the main furnace, and an access door in the side of the hood 32 is also provided with an air curtain. The scrap metal to be melted may be fed by a truck or by a conveyer (Fig. 4).
