Abstract

1467044 Composting apparatus P M WHITESIDE 10 July 1974 30614/74 Heading C1B A composting unit comprises a cylindrical container 12 horizontally mounted for manual rotation on a stand 25, said cylinder having a door (14) in the cylindrical wall, a flyproof drain (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown) and a flyproof air vent 16 in an end wall remote from the drain. Rotation may be by means of wheels or rollers 26, which may be serrated, engaging in a track 24 in the drain, a crank 28 being provided to turn the wheel or roller. Alternatively the cylinder may be mounted on a centrally located axial shaft, the ends of which are supported for rotation, which may be produced via handles on the drum or by a handle on one end of the shaft which engages in lugs on the drum. A ratchet and pawl system may be employed to ensure that the drum rotates in one direction only.
