Abstract

1466994 Roller blinds OVERHEAD DOOR CORP 12 Feb 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 06387/74 Heading A4B [Also in Divisions E1-2] A roller shutter includes a flexible panel 11 suspended from a horizontal shaft 12 which is free to move in a vertical plane above supports, e.g. rolls 53, 54, and which is supported by a plurality of spaced bands 56 which pass over rollers 57 parallel to and spaced above the shaft, the bands each having one end attached to the shaft 12 and the other end attached to a shoe 16 secured to the bottom of the panel 11, the arrangement being that, when the panel is in its lowered position and slightly slack, the bands 56 are taut so that, on rotating the shaft to wind up the panel, the tension in the bands causes the shaft to roll up the band to thereby lift off the rolls 53, 54 before raising the panel 11. In the embodiment of Fig. 14, the bands 106 connected to the shaft 90 pass over first rollers 104 and are connected to the shoe 102 of the panel 91. Further bands 92 are connected at one end to the shaft 90 and, at the other end, to a second roller 96 so that, as the further bands unwind from one roller, they wind on to the other roller. The tension in the further bands helps to support the weight of the shaft. The shaft and second roller are driven by a chain and sprocket arrangement.
