Abstract
1466607 Apparatus for packaging stacks of carrier bags WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 21 Nov 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 50501/74 Heading B8C Apparatus for packaging in an envelope 50, made e.g. of plastics film or paper, transversely folded carrier bags S that are stretched in a magazine 35 is characterized in that a reciprocable slide 40 is provided in the magazine, a vertically-displaceable backing member 46, that can be lowered on to the stack, is provided above the magazine, lateral forming plates 51, 52, which are movable towards one another, are provided above the magazine at the level of the slide 40 when displaced to its upper position for folding the corner folds of the base of the envelope 50 which is placed over the magazine 40 and drawn off by the projected stack, and closely below the forming plates 51, 52 there are provided sealing jaws 57, 58 which are movable towards one another for folding in and sealing the side portions of the base of the envelope. As shown, a double-belt conveyer 1 feeds bags S singly to a folding station comprising suction belts 2, forming plate 5, and lateral folding plates 6, 7 to double-fold the bags S before they are delivered, by a double-belt conveyer 8 which grips the side edges of the folded bags, on to a plate 10 located beneath the lower pair of belts 8. Apertures 14, 15 in the plate 10, form inlets to a pair of stacking magazines 35; 36 which are mounted on a plate 37 beneath the plate 10, the apertures 14, 15 having vertically reciprocal abutments 16, 17 located adjacent their downstream edges. The abutments 16, 17 are raised in such a manner that enough bags to form a stack are supplied alternatively over the apertures 14, 15 and are pushed, one at a time, therethrough into the corresponding magazine 35, 36 by a ram 12 or 18. During filling of a magazine the supporting plate 40, 41 therein yields downwardly under the control of pressure medium until the final number of bags S has been stacked therein. The magazine is then transferred laterally, by a cylinder 38, 39 to the right, to a packing station, Fig. 3, whereupon an envelope 50 is placed over the magazine, by hand or by suitable mechanism, the backing plate 46, 47 is lowered to rest upon the stack, and the latter, with the weight of the plate 46, 47 on top, is raised by the plate 40, 41, to its uppermost position. A pair of forming plates 51, 52 is moved by cylinders 53, 54 towards each other and enter recesses in the sides of the plate 40, 41 to fold in the narrow sides of the envelope 50, the latter being held by the plates 51, 52 while the plate 40, 41 is lowered and until welding beams 57, 58 are moved inwardly to weld, or glue together, the envelope, and the latter being removed in the direction of the arrow 61 by ejectors 59, 60 on to a surface 62 on the welding beam 58. The beams 57, 58 are then returned to their inoperative positions. A carrier bag dispenser 63, for an envelope 50 filled with bags S, is open at the tops and has, in its base, a withdrawal slot 64 which partially extends into the narrower sides of the dispenser. The envelope (50) has a tear-line of perforations (66), Fig. 8, not shown, at both sides, the spacing of the perforations from the base seam of the bag preferably being equal to half the width of the slot 64 of the dispenser. The latter may have a window for checking the supply of bags.
