Abstract
1466109 Automatic analysis; sample transfer E MOCHIDA 26 March 1974 [10 April 1973] 13357/74 Heading G1B Apparatus for automatically transferring a predetermined amount of liquid from a liquid supply container FL into each of a plurality of containers t 1 , t 2 , t 3 &c, comprises in combination a tube T made of flexible and resilient material, and disposed along a flat plate I, an open-ended pipette P connected to the downstream end of the tube, upstream blocking means P 1 closing the tube, a primary push plate P 2 reciprocable between an operative position where it presses a section of the tube T against the flat plate I and an inoperative position where the push plate is away from the tube and the tube is in its original shape, an auxiliary push plate P 3 adjacent to the primary push plate constructed and arranged to press a section of the tube against plate I after push plate P 2 has moved to its operative position and drive means for moving the pipette between the liquid supply container FL and the plurality of containers t 1 etc; the drive means in the embodiment shown comprising spring-loaded T-shaped lever B2 swingable about fixed pin G2<SP>1</SP> on activation of a solenoid, one arm of the lever B2 being connected to a metal tube T1 which forms an extension to tube T. The amount of liquid to be transferred may be adjusted by stretching tube T, movement of fin H 2 on the tube being limited by a fitting J2 when fin H 1 at the other end of the tube is drawn outwardly by engagement of the fin with one end of a lever K which is pivotable about L. The pressure plates P 2 , P 3 and a tube blocking means P 1 , kept in operation throughout the sample transfer operation, are each connected to spring- loaded levers acted upon by solenoids, and the liquid supply container FL and the test tube at the sample receiving position are raised and lowered for the sample taking and sample receiving steps as appropriate by actuation and deactuation of solenoids F3, F4. Pressure plate P 3 , is operated after plate P2 to ensure the dispensing of all of the liquid sample.
