Abstract

1466069 Nitrodiphenylamine monoazo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 April 1974 [3 May 1973] 21016/73 Heading C4P Water-soluble monoazo dyes have the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is OH, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, arylamino or sulphatoalkylamino; R<SP>2</SP> is H, -SO 3 H or -COOH; R<SP>3</SP> is H, alkyl, -SO 3 H or -COOH; R<SP>4</SP> is H, halogen, OH, aryl, alkyl or alkoxy and R<SP>5</SP> is H, alkyl, acyl or arylsulphonyl, the -OR<SP>5</SP> group being in the 2- or 4-position relative to the azo group and the substituents R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> being so chosen that the total number of sulpho, sulphato and carboxy groups is two of which not more than one is carboxy. The dyes are prepared by diazotization of a diphenylamine derivative, and coupling with a phenol. The OH group may, where necessary, be converted to alkoxy, acyloxy or arylsulphonyloxy by known methods The dyes give reddish yellow hues with synthetic polyamides, e.g. nylon 66, nylon 6, and nylon 11.
