Abstract
1465683 Waveguide structures BICC Ltd 23 July 1974 [24 July 1973] 35126/73 Heading H1W A waveguide structure comprises at least one lossy reinforcing layer comprising resin-bonded fibres of glass or other inorganic material provided, at least in places, with a coating of a metal or metal alloy. The circular waveguide shown, for e.g. propagation of the circularelectric mode, comprises a layer 1 of helicallywound copper wire and three layers 2, 3, 4 of resin-bonded glass fibre rovings, each layer comprising two rovings wound with opposite hand and interwoven. Some or all of the fibres have a continuous or discontinuous coating of iron or nickel applied by subjecting the fibres to carbonyl gas at a temperature of about 200‹ C. The fibres may have a diameter of 8Ám. and the coating a thickness of e.g. 2Ám. The coated fibres may extend entirely longitudinally. A water-barrier 5 made of aluminium sheet and a layer 6 of bonded glass fibre tape are applied overall.
