Abstract
1465187 Luminescent screens THOMSONCSF 26 March 1974 [27 March 1973] 13452/74 Heading C4S [Also in Division H1] A c.r.t. display screen comprises a substantially non-remanent phosphor 1, remanent phosphor 2 with inert barrier B and a substantially non-remanent phosphor 3 with a barrier B<SP>1</SP>, the colour of phosphor 3 superimposed on that of phosphor 1 producing a colour subjectively the same as that of phosphor 2 so that when the beam voltage is increased to produce a persistent trace, the "flash" effect is eliminated. The respective emissions may be green, orange and red. Fig. 1 is schematic only, and is intended to include a mixture of coated phosphors for example "Rise time" requirements of the phosphors are discussed. Operation for barriers of different thicknesses is discussed w.r.t., Fig. 4. Between voltages V 01 and V 02 , a non-remanent intermediate colour is produced (e.g. yellow). In Fig. 2, the non-remanent phosphor 1 covers non-remanent phosphor 3 and barrier B<SP>1</SP> and inherently acts as a further barrier. Phosphor powders may be 5 to 20 Á grain size, and the two non-remanent phosphors each in amount 20 to 30% by wt. of the total mixture. Phosphor grains-2 and 3 may be coated to 1 Á thickness. PPI displays are exemplified.
