Abstract

1464653 Electro-photographic members; manifold imaging XEROX CORP 26 Feb 1974 [26 Feb 1973] 8727/74 Headings G2C and G2H An electro-photographic member for the manifold imaging process comprises an electret and a photo-conductive layer which is structurally fracturable to the combined effects of light and an electric field which is heated by applying conductive surfaces to opposite sides of the member and connecting the surfaces. Images are produced by applying a receiver sheet over the photoconductive layer, applying a first conductor in contact with the electret and a second conductor in contact with the receiver and connecting the conductor whereby due to the persistent electric polarization possessed by the electret an electric field is created, imagewise exposing the member and separating the receiver which has an image thereon and leaving a complementary image on the electret. The electret may be a polyester or an alkali doped carnauba wax layer and preferably has a surface charge density greater than 10<SP>-8</SP> coulombs per square cm so that an electric field of 350 volts per mil or higher is created.
