Abstract

1464545 Flame retardant viscose COURTAULDS Ltd 21 May 1974 [22 May 1973] 24410/73 Heading C3F [Also in Division C2] Regenerated cellulose filaments incorporate as a flame retardant asubstantially water-insoluble phosphazene polymer which contains substantially no P-halogen bonds and whose P atoms carry substituents selected from -OR, -SR and -NR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP> where each R is optionally halogen-substituted acyclic or cyclic alkyl or alkenyl having up to 6C, R<SP>2</SP> is optionally halogensubstituted alkyl or cycloalkyl having up to 6C or C 6-10 aryl and R<SP>3</SP> is H or optionally halogensubstituted alkyl. or cycloalkyl, at least one -NR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP> group and 2 to 5 times as many -OR and/or -SR groups being present in the polymer. Preferably the filaments contain 5 to 30% of the flame retardant based on the weight of cellulose.
