Abstract

1464435 Dry distillation and thermal decomcomposition of solid waste HITACHI Ltd 7 May 1974 [9 May 1973] 20094/74 Heading C5E Hydrocarbons are produced by the dry-distillation and thermal decomposition of solid combustible waste containing plastics by using a fluidized bed, comprising the steps of: (a) separating and removing solid carbon and ashes from gases produced through thermal decomposition; (b) recovering oil components from the volatile component contained in the gases thus produced; (c) separating and removng corrosive gases from the gases; and (d) utilizing a part of gases refined through the steps (a) to (c) as a fluidizing source for the fluidized bed and an energy source for thermal decomposition. Part of the gases which have been refined through the steps of (a) to (c) is re-circulated and fed to the fluidized bed, together with oxygen containing gas, and at least a portion of the other part of the refined gases may be fed to the outer circumferential portion of the apparatus containing the fluidized bed for combustion to supply heat in the apparatus. Step (d) may be replaced by the steps of re-circulating part of the gases which have been refined through steps (a) to (c) to be fed into the fluidized bed; and feeding at least a portion of the other part of the refined gases to the outer circumferential portion of the apparatus containing the fluidized bed for combustion to supply heat in the apparatus. An apparatus for dry-distillation and thermal decomposition of solid combustible waste containing plastics by using a fluidized bed, comprises a fluidized bed thermal decomposition furnace; separating and recovering means communicating with the furance for solid carbon and ashes contained in the gases produced through thermal decomposition; condensing and recovering means communicating with the separating and recovering means for volatile matter contained in the gases produced through thermal decomposition; separating and removing means communicating with the condensing and recovering means for corrosive gases contained in the gases produced through thermal decomposition; and means for utilizing part of the refined gases as fluidizing source for the furnace and energy source for thermal decomposition. The means for utilizing part of the refined gases includes a re-circulate piping system through which to re-circulate part of the gases refined from the separating and removing means, to the furnace; and a feed piping system through which to feed oxygen containing gases to the furnace. The apparatus includes a supply piping system through which to supply at least a portion of the other part of the refined gases to the outer circumferential portion of the furnace; and combustion means for the gases to supply heat to the furnace, the combustion means connecting with the supply piping system. The means for utilizing part of the refined gases may include a re-circulate piping system through which to re-circulate part of the gases, which have been refined through the separating and removing means to the furnace; supply piping system through which to supply at least a portion of the other part of the refined gases to the outer circumferential portion of the furnace, and combustion means for the other part of the refined gases to supply heat to the furnace, the combustion means connecting with the supply piping system.
