Abstract

1464087 Selective printing NCR CORP 21 April 1975 [6 May 1974] 16355/75 Heading B6F [Also in Division G2] A business machine (such as a transaction terminal or each register) has means for selectively producing a character in an electrooptic device 20 and for projecting an image of said character simultaneously to a viewing screen 45 and to a light-to-heat transducer 33 whereby said character may be thermally recorded. As shown, the electro-optic device comprises a liquid crystal cell (of inverted nematic field effect type) which forms characters from seven bar elements (Fig. 2A, not shown). It may alternatively comprise an array of light emitting diodes (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). The light-to-heat transducer, which comprises conductors separated by photoconductive material, may comprise (a) live sets of interleaved conductors (Fig. 3A, not shown), (b) live sheet conductors, one of which has a plurality of apertures (Fig. 4B, not shown), or (c) two shaped conductors forming between them an area substantially the same as the seven bar elements (Fig. 5, not shown).
