Abstract

1,011,054. Selective printing. CITY SIGNS Ltd. Oct. 23, 1964 [Nov. 8, 1963], No. 44208/63. Heading B6F. A manually-operated printing apparatus for printing of notices, signs and tickets comprises a type carrier frame 20, Fig. 1, movable longitudinally and transversely of a paper support base 4, said frame 20 supporting a screen 21 of transparent plastics material and carrying on the face opposite the base 4 a plurality of alphanumeric blocks 30. The blocks 30 are disposed in rows and the screen is slit between adjacent blocks in a row at 31, Fig. 6, so that one block can be pressed into contact with the printing surface of a paper without moving one or more of adjacent blocks into contact with the paper. To effect impression of a character the frame 20 is moved in one or other direction to bring a selected character into contact with an inking pad 8 the frame then being displaced longitudinally along a rectangular frame 6 and the frame 6 in turn displaced transversely along guides 5x until the selected character on the blocks 30 is over the paper mounted on said support base 4. Transverse location of the frame 6 is facilitated by provision of apertured rails 10, the apertures 11 of which co-operate with spring-pressed ball-elements 13 carried by the frame.
