Abstract

1464004 Screw sockets ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 11 April 1974 16221/74 Heading F2H An expansible anchor assembly 10 to secure a bolt 27 in a hole 34 comprises a cylindrical steel body 12 having an internal passageway where diameter decreases, either in steps (as shown) or in a smooth taper (Fig. 7, not shown), from a threaded portion 26 at its outer end towards its inner end, the inner end having axial slots 28 and broaching teeth 16, and a bullet 30, e.g. of hardened steel, temporarily retained (before installation of the assembly) in the passageway by a protrusion 35 but adapted to be forced by a punch (42), as in Fig. 4 (not shown), towards the inner end to expand it so that the teeth 16 grip the wall of the hole 34, the outer end of body 12 having a flare 37 to act as a pilot and to resist movement of the body 12 into the hole if the hole is larger than the body 12. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) the broaching teeth (16<SP>1</SP>) point towards the inner end of the anchor, and at least one band of knurling (14) is provided on the outside of the body adjacent the flare (37<SP>1</SP>).
