Abstract

1463837 Piezoelectric igniters RONSON PRODUCTS Ltd 1 April 1975 [1 April 1974] 14364/74 Heading H2A In a piezoelectric igniter, a spark electrode 1 is located by an insulating bush 6 and is in electrical contact with a high voltage conductor 7 connected to the crystal assembly (not illustrated) of the igniter, the bush 6 being secured with respect to the electrode 1 and the conductor 7 by means of a sleeve 9 of insulating material which extends over part of the bush 6, e.g. a spigot portion 10, and at least part of the conductor 7, and which is heat-shrunk on to the bush 6 and conductor 7. The conductor 7 is preferably provided with an inner insulating sleeve 11 extending from a covering 8 to a widened portion 5 of the electrode 1, into which the conductor 7 fits. The bush 6, which receives the electrode 1 therein as a sliding fit, has a curved surface 12 to provide a maximum anti-tracking path length between the electrode 1 and adjacent parts of the igniter housing (3, Fig. 1, not shown), and has flanges 13, 14 for mounting to a housing bracket (2). The conductor 7 may alternatively extend through the bush 6 to form the actual electrode 1. The sleeve 9 may be an irradiated cross-linked polyethylene which can be heat-shrunk by hot air or infra-red radiation.
