Abstract

1463715 Assembling sliding clasp fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 11 April 1974 [19 April 1973] 16112/74 Heading E2S A device for holding a slider during assemblage of a fastener chain 26 therethrough, the slider 14 including a channelled body and a pull tab 18 pivotally attached thereto, comprises a hollow guide structure 11; an upright support structure 10 mounted in said guide structure 11 for up-and-down motion therethrough in such a manner that said support structure 10 partly projects upwardly of said guide structure when said support structure is in its most elevated position, Fig. 1; a slider rest formed on top of said support structure 10 to hold the slider in upside-down position thereon, said slider rest including at least one channel 17 extending downwardly therefrom to receive the pull tab 18 of the slider, so that the fastener chain 26 can be manipulated through the channelled body of the slider in said most elevated position of said support structure; and a pair of release arms 21, 21 pivotally supported e.g. in slots 20, 20 on said guide structure 11 in opposed relation to each other. Resilient means, e.g. torsion springs 23, are also provided according to the invention for biasing the free ends of the release arms towards each other so that their free ends will yieldably abut against the opposite surfaces of said support structure when the latter is in its most elevated position; and whereby upon descent of said support structure into said guide structure, said free ends of said release arms slide along said support structure to engage the slider on said slider rest, the engaged slider being succeedingly released from said slider rest and supported by said release arms with the continued descent of said support structure to its most depressed position within said guide structure. As shown, when the support 10 is in its lowermost position, Fig. 4, a slider 14, from a feed mechanism 12, is placed, upside-down, upon the slider rest at the top of the support 10 the slider tab 18, and its lug 16, being neatly received respectively in vertical channels 17, 15 which are located at right angles to each other in the top of the support 10. The latter is then raised the upper ends of the release arms 21, 21, grooved at 24, sliding along grooves 25, 25 in the support 10 to be turned about their pivotal mountings 22, 22, away from each other, to their inoperative, standby, positions, Fig. 1. In the uppermost position of the support an operator manipulates a pair of fastener stringers 26 through the guide channels of the slider in the usual manner whereupon, as the support is lowered, the release arms 21, 21 slide toward each other along the grooves 25 until their top ends, located in the same horizontal plane, engage the bottom surface of the slider body the side edges of the pull tab 18 being located in the grooves 24, 24. With the continued descent of the support 10 into the guide structure 11 the slider 14 is released from the support 10 to be securely supported, with the stringers 26, on the release arms 21, 21. The slider 14 and stringers 26, 26 can either be removed from the arms 21, 21 manually or, can be left to be cast off by the support 10 as the latter succeedingly carries the next slider upward. The slider holder on the support 10 is preferably provided with means for securely locking the slider 14 in position, at least while the support 10 is in its uppermost position, the fastener being unlocked as the support descends. The slider rest can be made to conform with the type of slider used.
