Abstract
1431748 Slider holder for the assemblage of slide fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 16 April 1974 [19 April 1973 (2)] 16591/74 Heading E2S A device for holding sliders during assemblage of a fastener chain therethrough wherein the slider includes a pull tab having an opening therein comprises a hollow guide structure 12; an upright support structure 10 slidably mounted in said guide structure for up-and-down motion therethrough in such a manner that the support structure partly projects upwardly of the guide structure when in its most elevated position; a slider rest 11 formed on top of said support structure to support the slider in upside-down disposition thereon, the slider rest 11 including at least one channel 17 extending downwardly from the top of the support structure to receive the pull tab of the slider; a locking lever 22 pivotally supported by said support structure so as to be turnable between a first and a second position; a detent 24 formed on the locking lever 22 to engage the opening in the pull tab of the slider on the rest 11 when the locking lever is in the first position, the detent 24 retracting out of the tab opening when the locking lever is turned to said second position; and first resilient means 25 for biasing the locking lever toward the first position. According to the invention the device also comprises a stop 28 pivotally supported, at 29, by the support structure 10 so as to be turnable between a third and fourth position, the stop being held in said third position while said locking lever is held in said first position; second resilient means 53 for biasing the stop 28 toward the fourth position so that, when the locking lever is turned to the second position, the stop is concurrently turned to the fourth position to restrain the locking lever in the second position; a first striker 34, Fig. 5, disposed in a prescribed position within the guide structure to turn the locking lever to the second position against the resistance offered by the first resilient means 25 during descent of the support structure to its most depressed position within the guide structure so that the slider can then be deposited properly on the slider rest. The invention also includes the essential feature comprising a second striker 36 disposed in another prescribed position within the guide structure to turn the stop 28 to the third position against the resistance offered by the second resilient means during ascent of the support structure from its most depressed position back to its most elevated position so that the slider, which has been deposited on the slider rest 11, is locked in position thereon :by the detent 24 of the locking lever by the time the support 10 reaches its most elevated position. The device includes back-up retaining means for securely maintaining the locking lever 22 in its locking position and which comprises a stay 40, Fig. 1, which is fixed to a shaft 39 revolvably mounted in a pair of brackets 38 fixed to the guide structure 12 the stay 40 being urged into back-up engagement with the locking lever 22 by a tension spring 42 which is connected between a stationary member, not shown, and the lower end of a link 41, the upper end of which is fixed to the shaft 39. The stay 40 is releasable by a manually operable lever 43 which actuates a pressure member 45. In use, assuming that a fastener chain 21 has just been manipulated through a slider and the latter has just been pulled from engagement with the detent, the back up stay having been previously released by pressing down the lever 43, the support 10 descends and immediately before its lowermost position an abutment 27 on the locking lever 22 engages the striker 34 so that the detent 24 is retracted from the slider rest channel 17 and is held in this position by the stop 28 which is turned clockwise by the spring 33, Fig. 5. As the support 10 succeedingly ascends it picks up the next slider 19 already positioned, by feed mechanism not shown, upside-down in the guide structure 12, the tab 20 being received in the channel 17 and its lug from the tab in a second channel 16. The striker 36 is then moved into the structure 12, Fig. 7, to pivot the stop 28 from engagement with the locking lever 22 so that the detent 24, urged by the spring 25, engages in the opening in the tab 20. The support 10 finally ascends to its uppermost position, Fig. 1, where the stay 40 is urged by the spring 42 into engagement with the locking lever 22 to doublelock the slider 19 on the rest 11.
