Abstract
1463445 Coating shoe assemblies INTERNATIONAL SHOE MACHINE CORP 24 June 1975 [23 Aug 1974] 26786/75 Heading B2L A cement applying mechanism particularly for a cement lasting mechanism of the kind described in Specification 1454939 comprises a cement extruding nozzle 70 Fig. I or as shown a pair of nozzles, mounted for movement in a rearward direction in a cement applying stroke between an initial location at a boundary between an unwiped position of the shoe assembly 162 and the previous wiped toe position and a final location and mounted for pivotal movement about an upright axis a cement flow directing means viz a portion 250 Fig. 7 of the nozzle passage 88 in the nozzle which extends radially from the axis, and means of a motor 74 to move the nozzle through its cement applying stroke. The nozzle is so constrained that the cement flow directing means 250 is directed laterally of the rearward direction and outwardly from the axis during movement of the nozzle 70 in its cement applying stroke from the initial location to an intermediate location wherein the heel portion of the shoe commences to curve rearwardly and inwardly. This is determined by engagement of a cam 160 with a valve 146. When the nozzle has reached the intermediate location the nozzle 70 is swung rearwardly and inwardly about the axis by the motor 74 into a position such that the cement flow directing means 250 is directed generally rearwardly from the axis when the nozzle has arrived at its final location. Cement can thus be applied along the entire periphery of the workpiece including its rearmost extremity during the entire cement applying stroke. Cessation of outward movement of the nozzle 70 by the motor 100 caused by engagement of a cam 156 Fig. 9 with a valve 142 and inward movement of the nozzle to the extent permitted by stop bolt 102 Fig. 3, when nozzle 70 is between its intermediate and final locations, ensures that the cement flow directing means 250 is pointing to. the heel end extremity. The nozzles are raised from this position by motors 108, Fig. 3. A wiping operation by wipers 248 Fig. 1 is simultaneously accompanied by rearward movement of a plate 24, Fig. 1 and the nozzles 70 until they reach their idle positions, at which point the cycle is complete and the shoe assembly 162 Fig. 11 can be removed. The mechanism can be applied to apparatus where cement is applied to different workpieces.
