Abstract

1463035 Indicating measurement; liquid level indication BERTIN & CIE 20 March 1975 [21 March 1974] 11742/75 Headings G1H and G1J [Also in Division F2] A measuring device comprises a transparent push button which is depressed to cause sensing of the parameter to be measured, the reading being visible through the button and being retained when the button is released. As described, the device is shown applied to measuring the depth of liquid in a tank 25, the button comprising, in one arrangement, a transparent panel 1 having totally internally reflective stepped surfaces 16 and portions 2, 3 locating a diaphragm 12. The button has a piston-cylinder relationship with a fixed body 4 and carries a pipe 24 which clips into the tank. When the button is depressed, a non-return valve 10 between a chamber 19 (the cylinder), and atmosphere is closed and a similar valve 11 opens so that air is forced into a chamber 20 beneath the diaphragm 12 and into the tube 24 via passages 22 to expel liquid. When the button is released, it is raised by a spring 6, valve 10 opens and valve 11 closes so that the pressure in the chamber 20 is related to the depth of liquid in the tank. Proportional movement of the diaphragm 12 determines the degree of telescoping of contrasted coloured sleeves 13, 14, and their relative positions show as annulii reflected from the corresponding surfaces 16 through the panel 1. In an alternative device for the same purpose, the construction is similar except that the diaphragm pivots a pointer (27) within the button Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) by a push-rod (30) connection, the pointer sweeping a scale (41). In either embodiment, the panel 1 may be domed to give magnification.
