Abstract
1462764 Cleaning the exterior of drum, keys &c KONSTRUKTIE J LAMBRECHTS pvba 18 Sept 1974 [12 July 1973] 33310/73 Heading B8T A machine for cleaning the exterior of drums or kegs comprises a series of parallel cylindrical brushes 18, each rotatable about its axis, a chain conveyer 14 on which kegs are carried past the brushes 18, a guide bar 30 which presses the kegs against the brushes 18, and the whole encased in sheet metal which forms a tunnel with openings 15 in the end walls through which kegs are carried on conveyer 14. In the embodiment shown, four vertically mounted cylindrical rotatable brushes 18, having nylon bristles, are contained in the first section 16 of tunnel. A horizontal chain conveyer 14 has parallel chains of nylon or other suitable plastics material which allows the kegs to be rotated by brushes 18 when held against the brushes 18 by the guide bar 30. A locking device (not shown) acting on arms 34, which hold horizontal guide bar 30 and are pivoted at their lower ends 36, allows prior-positioning of the guide bar 30 according to the diameter of articles to be cleaned. The first section 16 also contains a further cylindrical brush 38, rotatable about its horizontal axis, positioned above and parallel to the conveyer 14 and mounted so that the vertical position of brush 38 can be adjusted. The lower part of section 16, formed as a tank, contains detergent solution 46, filtered before use by filter 54, which is supplied via a pump to jets adjacent to brushes 18 and 38. The second sections 56 of tunnel 12 comprises a bath of rinsing water which is supplied to jets to rinse the kegs as they are carried along section 56 on conveyer 14. In a further embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the horizontal brush 38 is omitted and three additional brushes (70) are provided to clean the bottom faces of the kegs carried through the machine on conveyer 14. Each brush (70) is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis and has bristles (72) extending upwards between the chains of conveyer 14.
