Abstract

1462501 Transformers M Y KOROTKOV N D MOSKALENKO B V STEFANOV K F SMIRNOVA and V E BULYGIN 9 April 1974 15572/74 Heading HIT [Also in Division G3] A power transformer for use in a high-power current stabilizer (see Division G3) comprises a secondary winding in the form of a rigid busbar 7 embraced by a magnetic core 5 carrying primary windings 6. Sections 9 of the core 5 separated by oil-impregnated wood gaskets 14 comprise laminations punched from coldrolled transformer steel such that the direction of rolling coinsides with the longitudinal axis of the core arms. The primary winding 6 is built up from U-shaped copper tubes 17 of rectangular cross-section with the U-shaped ends of adjacent layers alternately disposed at opposite ends of the core. Turn to turn insulation is provided by a strip 19 of fibreglass alminate and awrapping (20, Fig. 7, not shown) of glass micanite tape. The winding is insulated from the core arms by insulating sheets 11 and 12 and secured by oil-impregnated wooden wedges 21 and insulating plates 22. The winding on each core arm is interleaved (Fig. 8, not shown), connections between turns being made with copper tubes 50, which may be shunted by copper jumpers (51, Fig. 9, not shown). The winding on one core arm may be connected in series or parallel with that on the other. The coolant circuit for the primary winding is completed with rubber hoses 53, 55 and pipe unions 58 at inlets and outlets. The secondary winding 7 comprises two copper conductors welded together (59, Fig. 11, not shown), or a cylindrical pipe pressed into rectangular cross-section, and is insulated with glass mica tape (63). A pipe union (62) is fitted to each end of the bus-bar to allow coolant to be supplied to the internal duct. The sections 9 of the magnetic core are held in rigid alignment by non-magnetic covers 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, tie rods 16, and epoxy-based compound 15 which is poured into each cover and over the gaskets 14.
