Abstract
1462393 Silencing gaseous flows; gas turbine ducted fan engines - silencing SOC NATIONALE INDUSTRIELLE AEROSPATIALE 21 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 02658/74 Headings F1B; F1G and F1J A sound suppressing structure 100 for mounting in a duct to suppress sound from fluid flowing through the duct comprises perforated partition walls for sub-dividing into similar multiple passages 25 the whole cross-sectional area of the duct fluid passage, perforations 30 extending right through the walls, the cross-sectional area of the passages 25, the wall thickness and the size of the perforations 30 being such that there is resonance between each stream and the stream in the adjacent passages to silence the streams by destructive interference. The walls may be formed by welding folded sheets such as 26 and 27 to flat sheets such as 28 along weld lines 29. The flow channels may be triangular, rectangular, e.g. square, hexagonal or circular. Silencing of gas flowing through the channels is by resonance between adjacent channels via the perforations 30. In Fig. 12 a gas turbine ducted fan by-pass engine 200 has structures 33, 35, 37 with perforated partitions to silence the various gas flows.
