Abstract

An iron salt having the formula FoSO4Cl suitable for tanning is obtained by acting on ferrous sulphate either dry, crystallized, or in solution, with chlorine. When crystals of ferrous sulphate are treated, a solution is first formed which on drying in a water-bath produces a crystalline cake of the composition FeSO4Cl.6H2O.
