1462093 Axial-flow pumps; screw actuated piston dispensers E SERRA 11 April 1974 [12 April 1973 4 April 1974] 16064/74 Headings F1C and F1R A dispenser for pasty material, such as hand washing paste, comprises a container for the paste 1, Fig. 1, an impeller 4 at the bottom of the container for forcing the paste through an opening 5 and a piston 6 urged downwardly by screw action to feed the paste towards the impeller. Rotation of the impeller and a threaded shaft 7 connected thereto for screwing the piston downwardly, is effected by a handle 12 via a spring ratchet system 13. The underside of the piston may be roughened to enhance adhesion with the paste and thereby prevent rotation of the piston. The screwed connection of the piston with the shaft 7 is achieved via a knurled nut 8 which can be unscrewed from the piston and then tilted as shown in broken lines for quick removal from the shaft, thus enabling easy removal of the piston prior to refilling the container. The shaft 7 may be made detachably securable at either of its ends to the piston to facilitate refilling of the container. The main body 15 of the container may be a replaceable cardboard refill cartridge engaged on spiked stops 18, 19 in a lower end cover 3 and having a ring 21 at its upper end covered by a member 22 attached thereto by a projection 23 and a lock 24. The opening 5 may be closed by an impeller blade when the impeller is stationary.
