(Cl. 401-190) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Shaving brush attachment for pressurized shaving cream can comprising a hollow base, a stem having bristles mounted thereon, the stem being threadedly attachable :to one end of the base and having a central opening communicating the bristles with the hollowed out portion of the base, means on the other end of said base for mounting the attachment on the pressurized can and communicating the shaving cream dispensing mechanism of the can with the hollowed out portion of the base, and means for activating the shaving cream dispensing mechanism.
This invention relates gene-rally to shaving accessories. More specifically it relates to shaving brushes.
It is well known to all men who shave that a beard must be softened before a shaving operation so as to allow easy cutting of a razor blade across the whiskers, this being generally accomplished by application of a soap lather with a brush. Accordingly, for most men their shaving equipment comprises a mild soap lather, a brush for applying the lather and the safety razor with blade. In view of the fact that most men shave upon arising when in a hurry to go to work, it is preferable that all such daily chores be quickly expedited and with minimum use of accessories.
Therefore it is a principal object of the present invention to provide a shaving lather brush unit having self-contained lather, thereby eliminating the necessity of handling separately at lather soap.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a shaving lather brush unit wherein the lather soap is dispensed in an instantly lathered condition.
Still another object is to provide a shaving lather brush unit wherein the lather is dispensed upon the brush bristles for instant use.
Yet another object is to provide a shaving lather brush which is attachable to a conventional pressure type container which contains soap lather under pressure, wherein the container serves as a handle for the brush, and wherein the container can be replaced when empty with a new pressurized container of lather.
Other objects are to provide a pressurized shaving lather brush unit which is simple in design, easy to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efiicient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIGURE 1 is an exploded cross sectional view of a brush and pressurized lather container associated therewith.
FIGURE 2 is a similar view of a modified form of the present invention.
FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary side view of a further modified form of the invention.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral represents a pressurized shaving lather brush according to the present invention wherein there is a base 11 having a plurality of bristles 12 protruding therefrom out of one end. The base has a central opening 13 extending therethrough, one end of the opening terminating on the Patented Apr. 2, 1968 center of the end wall 14 from which the bristles protrude.
As shown in FIGURE 1 the central opening is provived at one portion with an internal thread 15 which is engageable with an external thread 16 of a pressure can 17 containing shaving soap lather. The lower portion 18 of the central opening 13 is enlarged to encompass a rim 19 upon this type of pressure can. Likewise an intermediate portion 20 of the central opening 13 is enlarged to accommodate the tube 21 of the can 17. The upper portion 22 of the central opening 13 is of lesser diameter than the portions thereof therebelow. Thus there is a shoulder 23 between portions 22 .and 20, and there is a shoulder 24 between portion 20 and the threaded portion 15.
In operative use the brush is threadedly secured upon the pressure can. It is to be noted that the distance between shoulders 23 and 24 is less than the distance between the upper end of tube 21 and the upper end of thread 16 as is indicated by dimensions A and a. Thus as the brush is threaded upon the can, the upper end of tube 21 engages the shoulder 23 whi e there is still additional threading available. Any further threading together will now cause shoulder 23 to depress the tube 21 thereby causing lather to be discharged into the bristles.
In a modified form shown in FIGURE 2, the base 25 has a lower side 26 which abuts with face 27 on the stem 28 of the pressure can 29. The base 25 has an eX- ternal thread 30 which engages internal thread 31 on the can. As shown by dimensions B and b the thread 30 is longer than thread 31 whereby additional threading after initial securement causes side 26 to push down the stem 28 causing lather to be dispensed.
In FIGURE 3 a further modified form is shown wherein a pressure can 32 has a push button 33 centrally mounted on top and lather is sidewardly dispensed through a side opening 34. In this form of the invention a brush assembly comprising a base unit 40 and a brush unit -41 is designed to accommodate this type of can. The base unit 49 has an opening 36 for fitting around upper end 37 of the can. A passage 38 in the base unit 40 communicates with side opening 34 and with a threaded opening 39 in the base unit 40 into which a brush element 41 having an externally threaded stem 42 is secured. A central opening 43 in the element 41 conveys lather to the bristles when push button 33 is depressed by a finger 44.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims:
I claim:
1. A shaving brush attachment for a pressurized shaving lather can, which can has a shaving lather dispensing mechanism comprising a valve, a push button on the top of said can for actuating said valve, and a conduit which is radially disposed with respect to said can for dispensing said shaving lather therefrom, said attachment comprising .a base having a lower portion and an upper portion,
the lower portion of said base defining a hollow cylindrical member having a vertical opening therein, the lower edge of said opening being proportioned to receive the top of said can for removably mounting said base on said can, the top of said member eX- tending above the said push button when said base is mounted on said can, the top of said cylindrical opening providing communication therethrough with said push button,
a passage extending radially from said cylindrical opening and communicating with said radial conduit of said can when said base is mounted on said can,
the upper portion of said base having a vertically eX- tending internally threaded opening therein,
a vertical passage in said base communicating said radial passage with said opening in said upper portion of said base,
a stern having an upper end and a lower end,
a plurality of bristles extending from the upper end of said stem,
the lower end of said stem being externally threaded and removably mountable Within said vertical opening in said upper end of said base,
